Have lots of time? Or maybe just a little? There's a role for everyone in Scouting!

Do you want to work with young people? Or perhaps you're handy with a hammer, fantastic at fundraising, proficient at policy, resourceful at recruiting, or looking to learn?

Below, you'll find a summary of the teams of volunteers that make Scouting happen. Our current vacancies are detailed here. If you can't find what you're looking for, or would like to discuss volunteering with us, please contact us.

*Except where otherwise stated, you need to be aged 18 or over to volunteer with us.

Working with Young People (Young Leaders aged 14-17 years)

Our Young Leaders are either Explorer Scouts or young people working towards their Duke of Edinburgh's Award or Queen's Guide Award.

Explorer Scout Young Leaders volunteer alongside adult volunteers in a Squirrel Drey, Beaver Colony, Cub Pack or Scout Troop. The Leadership Team will support you to play an active role in the section, bringing fresh ideas to the table and acting as positive role models for the young people you are working with.

There is a Young Leaders' Scheme, which includes learning modules and challenges to help you develop your leadership skills.

Working with Young People (adult Volunteers)

Our Section Leadership Teams volunteer directly with young people aged 4-18, in Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers. They work together, along with Young Leaders, to:

- welcome young people and families to sessions and events

- make sure everyone is safe, supported, included and having fun

- help to plan and lead activities

- get involved with days out, camps and expeditions

- share and learn skills - from coding to cake decorating to canoeing

- celebrate young people's achievements big and small

You don't need to have previous experience of working with young people. We can provide you with the support and learning you need, along with the cups of tea, every step of the way.

Leading Other Volunteers

Our Team Leaders and Lead Volunteers get the best out of our volunteers, using their people and leadership skills. From our section leadership teams, to our programme, support and volunteering development teams, everyone benefits from having a team leader.

Our Team Leaders are supported by our Lead Volunteers, who in turn receive support from the level above.

Whether you're new to leading teams, or simply wanting to brush up on your skills, we have the people and learning opportunities to help you develop in the role.

Programme Team Volunteers

Our programme team support the delivery of Scouting to young people by providing people with the right skills for activities, such as those requiring activity permits or specialist equipment, and also running events for young people at District level

Our programme team volunteers volunteer flexibly, committing to as much or as few events and activities as they wish. Whilst some volunteers join the team to run a specific activity, such as archery, others provide general support.

Support Team Volunteers

Our Support Team undertake a wide range of volunteering activities, from fundraising to property and equipment maintenance, administration to cleaning, camp catering to web design, our team can turn their hands to anything requested.

Our support team volunteer flexibly, meaning you can give as much or as little time as you can spare.

Trustees

Our Trustees are a team of volunteers who see the big picture, make decisions, and work together to help Scouts run smoothly.

Trustees play a key part in Scouts, keeping an eye on our vision. They make sure young people have the best experience at Scouts, and check things are being done safely and legally.

Our Trustees are usually recruited annually before the Annual General Meeting, but the Trustee Board can also co-opt other Trustees during the year as required.

Volunteering Development Volunteers

The volunteering development team focus on supporting adult volunteers through recruitment, learning and awards & recognition.

From discussing volunteering opportunities, supporting volunteers through the recruitment journey, supporting learning, either administratively or by delivering learning opportunities, to assisting with recognising our volunteer's contributions, if supporting other adults is something you are interested in, the volunteering development team is for you.
